Chris Alford, DVM, MS, DACVS (Owner)

Dr. Alford grew up in Southwest Missouri and received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri.  Following graduation, he completed a surgical internship at the renowned Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Ketucky and then a surgical residency at Auburn University, subsequently completing a Master’s degree and achieving board certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Accepting a position with Milton Equine Hospital outside of Toronto, Dr. Alford spent several years focusing on sport horses and racehorse injuries.  In 2012, Dr. Alford joined the staff of the Morrie Waud Equine Clinic UW affiliate, as a surgeon and then The University of Wisconsin’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital prior to opening Turtle Valley Equine Hospital.

As a youth, Dr. Alford learned the art of saddle making and leather work, creating beautiful custom pieces for himself, family and customers.  Personal interests include woodworking, hunting, and fishing and of course a little time in the leather shop whenever he gets a chance.

He enjoys spending time with his family including two children and stays active as a board member at his local church.

Services

Turtle Valley Equine Hospital focuses on surgical care and options for your horse.  As such, we may not offer some services that would fall under general care or another specialty.  As a specialist trained and board certified in large animal surgery, Dr. Alford typically follows the thought of do one thing and do it well.  While not all inclusive, below is a list of some of the services we provide.
